Fullmoon with pink flowers

The brightest full moon of the year

Supermoon on 27th of April 2021

Finally, another full moon! In the early hours of Tuesday, 27th of April 2021, the moon can be seen in its full glory. April's full moon is very special because it is the brightest supermoon of the year. It is also known as the Pink Full Moon.

What is a supermoon?

The moon orbits the Earth in an elliptical orbit. This is why it is a little closer to us in some months and a little further away in others. In April, the moon is particularly close to the Earth and therefore shines about 15 percent brighter. In connection with the full moon, this is why it is called a supermoon.

Quick note: On average, the moon is about 384,000 kilometres away from the Earth. In the night from 26t to 27th of April, the full moon is about 357,000 kilometres away from us, which is about 30,000 kilometres closer!

Does the supermoon have special powers?

The moon has an influence on the earth and its inhabitants in all its phases. The full and new moons in particular show their powers clearly. The full moon, for example, provides for increased ionisation, which activates the body cells surrounded by bioenergy to a greater extent. This is why we often feel more receptive to vibrations and stimuli at times of the full moon.

Since the supermoon is now much closer to us, we can assume that the general influences of the moon have a stronger effect on us and the earth.

How does the term pink full moon come about?

Does the pink full moon appear pink in the night sky? The next supermoon owes its name not to its colour, but to the pink flame flower. The name comes from the USA, where every full moon has an individual name. These names are associated with various natural events. In this case, it is the pink flower that can be seen every year in April.

How is the full moon actually formed?

A full moon is seen when the Earth is between the Moon and the Sun. The visible side of the moon is completely illuminated at this time, which is why we can see it in all its beauty.
